SYMBOLIZATION OF DIWALI.
In ancient times diwali was known as Deepavali, in Sanskrit Deepavali in Sanskrit Deepa means (light) vali means (series). Deepavali is the festival of celebrating the victory of Light over darkness. Diwali is celebrated between The months of Ashwin and Kartika mid of September and mid-November. Diwali is also Celebrated when Lord Rama, Lakshmana, Sita, and Hanuman return to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile, and in Dwapara yuga Krishna defeats Narkashura. There are different stories in different religions.
SIGNIFICANCE OF DEEPAVALI.
In November as the winter seasons start nights become longer and days become shorter. In ancient times there were no lights on the street and there was darkness all around the streets. So people light up their houses with the help of Diya and help people find their way. When Lord, Rama, Lakshmana, Sita, and Hanuman and their military were returning to Ayodhya there were no lights on the streets so people lit up the Diya and helped them reach Ayodhya. That is why Deepavali is known as a series of lights.
HOW DOES DIYA PROTECT OUR FAMILY?
After the rainy season has ended all water is stored in small ponds or the jungle area due to water is stored and becomes dirty after the months. Deepavali is celebrated in winter due to unconditional temperature and humidity insects take rapid growth and affect many people around the region. Due to the storage of water after the rainy season, insects are born and diseases like dengue, malaria etc around regions In ancient times people used to protect their houses with the help of diyas. There are 5 types of oil used in diya
1) Coconut oil.
2) Mahua oil
3) Caster oil.
4) Neem oil.
5) Ghe.
This is also called Panch Deepam oil.
That is why in ancient times people used to keep diyas on the upper timber of a door frame(umbra) which produced the smell of the oil in all the surroundings that helped them to protect their houses.
WHY DO WE MAKE RANGOLI?
Rangoli is an art of designs that express the spread of positivity, happiness, and liveliness of a household and it also welcomes the good Laxmi. Goddess Laxmi is the creator and protector of our wealth. Natural Ingredients used in rangoli are powder calcite and limestone or cereal powders used to make designs for rangoli. The limestone prevents insects from entering the household and cereal powders attract insects towards them and protect our houses. These are the ingredients used in ancient times to protect houses from insects. Rangoli attracts our mind with her designs and rangoli has certain vibrations that make our mind calm while looking at her and she also helps us to deal with our emotions.
WHY DO WE MAKE DEEPAVALI SNACKS?
Did you ever notice why ghee is mostly used in making Diwali snacks? Ghee everybody thinks ghee makes us overweight it depends on how it is made and it depends on each individual how much they are consuming it. Ghee is considered as food of gods in Ayurveda.
Ghee is lactose-free it results in no bloating. This ghee acts as a catalyst that helps break down the food that we eat and provides essential fatty acids for our body. This research is scientifically proven. Ghee keeps our bodies warm during the winter seasons. Many refined oils boosted their sales in India and spread the wrong message to us about the ghee. WHY DO PEOPLE CLEAN THEIR HOUSES ON DEEPAVALI?
It is the time when goddess Laxmi enters the house with peace, wealth, and prosperity. A clean house brings peace and positivity to the people you live with.
SIGNIFICANCE OF 5 DAYS OF DEEPAVALI.
1) Dhanteras: The first day of Deepavali whole of India was excited for this day the festival that is united by lights that destroy darkness. Dhanvantari also known as (DhanTrayodashi) Dhan means richness and Trayodashi means(the 13th lunar day) of Krishna paksha.
Dhanvantri is a goddess worshipped on this day. Dhanvantri is the god of Ayurveda which helps many human beings in today's world to fight certain diseases. Dhanvantri emerged during Samudra manthana in one hand she held amrit and in the other hand, she held the sacred text of Ayurveda. On this day we can buy electronic gadgets, home appliances, automobiles, etc.
2) Narka Chaturdashi: Second day of Deepavali. On this day lord Krishna and Satyabhama defeated Narkasura and brought light over darkness. Kill your inner ego, anger, and selfishness and light yourself which brings positive outcomes towards yourself and others. Help others to destroy their darkness and light up your lamps within your inner self.
3) Lakshmi Puja: On the third day of Deepavali on this day we worship the goddess Laxmi she is the wife of lord Vishnu. Goodess has the power to give protect and take our wealth whenever she wants. We spend the things we love and stop waiting on the impermanent and unwanted grasp of the quality of spending the wealth on the good things.
4) Govardhan Puja: Fourth day Of Deepavali. Govardhan puja is known as Ankuut(mountain of food). Devotees worship Govardhan Hill and prepare food in a large variety of vegetarian food as a mark of gratitude. Krishna picks up Govardhan parvat for the people's shelter. Shri Krishna was younger than almost everyone in the city, Shri Krishna was respected in the village because he had immense knowledge and power. Indra was angered because villagers started worshipping Shri Krishna and devotion to Indra became less this resulted in anger and ego to Indra. Indra started thunderstorms and heavy rainfall In the village. To protect the people of the village Shri Krishna lifted the Govardhan parvat and protected his village for continuous 7 days. Indra accepted defeat and stopped thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. This day is celebrated to respect Mount Govardhan by preparing mountains of food.
5) Bhai Dhooj The fifth day of Deepavali on this date yamraj was invited by his sister Yamuna. Yamuna always invited Yamraj to meet her but Yamraj refused because of his duties. So once yamraj went to meet Yamuna. Yamuna was so happy after meeting her brother that she applied to Tilak and did puja to protect her brother.
At least once in the year, we should meet our sisters and make them happy with gifts, also this festival unties the family who lives with peace, love, and joy.
